Outline in Color is an American post-hardcore band from Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States.[1] The band has released three albums, two of which have reached the Billboard charts.

Outline In Color formed in 2009 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The band consisted of vocalists Trevor Tatro & Jonathan Grimes, guitarists C.J. Cochran & Forrest Mankins, keyboardist “MacBook”, bassist Michael Skaggs & drummer Austin McFerrin. They self-released their first EP produced by Joey Sturgis in 2010; the physical and iTunes versions of the album had different track listings. The physical edition featured 6 tracks, including a cover of Lady Gaga’s song, Bad Romance. The iTunes version only featured the first 5 tracks while the cover of Bad Romance was released as a stand-alone single with unique cover art.[2][3]

In 2011, Jonathan Grimes announced his departure from the band because he “didn’t want to be in a touring band at the time”. Outline In Color then announced their new singer a short time later, K.C. Simonsen.

In mid-2012, the band released two re-recorded tracks from their EP. “Every Boy Should Collect Knives” was completely re-mixed & “No Bleeding On the Carpet” was given an acoustic rendition. The keyboardist “MacBook” quit the band in mid-2012; no replacement was ever found, so all synthesizer duties were given to bassist Michael Skaggs. Months later, the band announced their first new Single from their upcoming debut album Jury of Wolves, produced by Andrew Wade. The song was called “I Ain’t Afraid of No Ghost” & it featured Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire. 2 weeks later, they released the second single which was the title track of the album. On September 25th, 2012, the band released Jury of Wolves Through Brkn Records. The physical American version of the album only included the first 11 songs, then the iTunes version featured 3 bonus tracks; an acoustic version of “The Good In Me”, a new song called “Tapdance At Knuckle Junction” and a cover of *NSYNC’s song “It’s Gonna Be Me”. The Japanese version had different cover art and included 15 songs; all 14 of the American tracks and the re-recorded version of “Every Boy Should Collect Knives” From their EP.

In mid-2013, the band signed to StandBy Records and released their first stand-alone Single with the label in October, “I Am My Own Invention (Tauscher.0)”.

In 2014, the band announced their second album to be released in June of that year and that Cameron Mizell was the producer. Masks was released on June 23rd, 2014. This was the first time Jonathan Grimes had sung with the band since 2011; he was featured on the track “Water In the Desert”. The physical edition of the album featured all 12 songs, yet only had a track list of 11 songs; the twelfth song is called “55”. The iTunes edition of the album's first song was called “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea”, but the physical copy titled it “Live to Tell”, this is the same song, they are not different tracks. The Japanese version of the album was given different cover art and 2 bonus tracks; an acoustic version of “I’ve Had This Dream Before” and an acoustic version of “The Souvenir Scheme”.

In February 2015, the band released a Japanese only stand-alone Single called “Fever Frenzy”. It was never added to Masks; however, StandBy Records released a video version of the single for other regions[4]

In July 2015, the band announced their third album, Struggle, was to be released sometime in early 2016. The first Single was released in February, “Eat Your Heart Out”, and the second Single was released only days later, “Alive”. On March 11th, 2016, the album, produced by Cameron Mizell, was released. This is the only album by the band that didn't feature Japanese bonus tracks. Just a short time later, drummer Austin McFerrin announced his departure from the band and was replaced by Nick Taylor.

In December 2016, the band released a statement on Facebook that said they had fired their clean vocalist K.C. Simonsen due to his alcohol abuse.

In early 2017, guitarist Forrest Mankins announced his departure to focus more on his family and love for photography.

In early 2017, the band announced a side project with most of its members called “Shamecult”. Their first EP was released through Stay Sick Recordings in November 2017. In September 2017, the band announced they had reunited with previous clean vocalist Jonathan Grimes and released 3 new singles; “Three Knee Deep”, “Year 8” and an acoustic version of “The Chase Scene”. They have begun recording their upcoming fourth album independently which is expected to be released sometime in late 2018.

In January 2018, the band released their cover of Kesha’s “Learn to Let Go” as part of We Are Triumphant's new Cover album, “Got You Covered, Vol. 2”. Outline in Color toured Japan in June 2018 with rapper Kyle Lucas. On September 3rd, 2018, they released a cover of My Chemical Romance’s song “Thank You For the Venom” as a part of We Are Triumphants & Ghost Killer Entertainment's Cover Album, “Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge”.
